This individual I know personally produced a 100% turn about never ever abused his wife or kid once again and has never once took a drop or dope once more..instantly delivered and set cost-free. No 12 step plan no rehab just a easy prayer of faith.

Is Alcoholics Anonymous more effective than Cognitve Behavioral Therapy?

Question by abnjim5: Is Alcoholics Anonymous far more effective than Cognitve Behavioral Therapy?
Considerably debate exists about which model is far more successful in treating the difficulty of drug addiction. Some say AA is the only remedy that “functions” while other individuals choose the much more human friendly non-religious CBT. AA uses rigid spiritual ideas based on their 12 actions and conducts their AA meetings on strict formats that had been written seven decades ago. In AA “labels” like alcoholic are utilised which nonetheless holds a high degree of social stigmatism. Cognitive Behaviour programs like Wise (self-management and rehab treatment) sees substance abuse as a behaviour that can be changed, not a disease. CBT self-assist techniques are solidly based in comtemporary science and open discussions are encouraged. AA tells it members and “newcomers” that they want to come across a greater power or god and relying on “self will” is poor and will lead to relapse.

If you were getting troubles with drugs, which would you decide on for help, AA or CBT?

Honest question for 12-step atheists, please?

Question by Blooming Sufi: Honest question for 12-step atheists, please?
    Hi all,

I’m somewhat familiar with the 12-step recovery plan utilized by Alcoholics Anonymous & numerous other groups. The plan, while not religious, is spiritual, and entails the belief in some power higher than ourselves. To keep factors simplified, they call this power ‘God’, but it really is very clear that God or this higher power be understood in whatever fashion each individual is comfortable with. The book, “The Twelve Methods for Everybody” suggests that some have named as their ‘god’ a lightbulb or a tree….

I was questioning how several atheists here had been helped making use of a 12-step program. Also, how do/did you define the energy greater than oneself? Do you really feel that the 12-step plan and/or the group you had been affiliated with genuinely gave you the freedom to understand your greater energy on your own terms?

Thank you for all serious, well-thought-out, honest replies !

    Tree bless you! ~)
