Alcoholics / Narcotics Anonymous .. would you go if YOU didn’t think you had a problem?
Question by : Alcoholics / Narcotics Anonymous .. would you go if YOU didn’t feel you had a problem?
I’m in a custody battle with my ex-husband, and it keeps acquiring worse and worse – he has accused me of abusing drugs, becoming “unstable” and even produced up stories about my current boyfriend abusing me. Initial – he did not abuse me, EVER, and when called on his lie in court, my ex rescinded his accusation. Second – I don’t abuse drugs, legal or not. Third – there have absolutely been occasions of instability for me, mostly because he left 3 years ago. Upon his random drug tests, I tested good for benzodiazepines – which I knew I would due to the fact I was prescribed them and other meds for severe depression/anxiety, so of course I took them. I do not know how but he has convinced the mediator and judge that I have a drug difficulty, no matter what I can say and do to prove otherwise. OK, enough background – my question now is this: I’ve been court ordered to attend either AA or NA meetings, twice a week, for 52 weeks. I know I do not have a drug or alcohol problem, so does my family members, my boyfriend, my therapist, every person, but the judge didn’t care. I don’t know what to do about this – I want my son, of course, but if I don’t believe I need to have the programs how could it benefit me to go to these meetings? I obviously won’t be following their “12 actions” or participating the way they anticipate. Guidance? I am thinking that perhaps a letter from my psychiatrist would assist take this stipulation off of my court order? I also have to call a drug testing lab each and every day, and three random times a month they call me in to drug test. There are SO several hoops to go via, and I want to fight these lies. No doubt my son is worth it, but is there Something I can do?

I have been so high functioning all my life that it took a lifetime to get a excellent diagnosis. I attended EA a few occasions, but it wasn’t for me, at least not at the time. I checked out offerings at the VA, but it looked like a format not optimal for true peer assistance. If anyone knows of a good support group close to Clairemont, San Diego, please reply.

Question by crimmsonandclover: How in the globe would anybody think *Atheism* or denying GOD?
Would be good for humanity?
Is Athesim going to cease:
Crime in all it’s types, Murder, Rape, Alcohol and Drug abuse,
School shootings, Emotinal Pain in people’s lives?
Religion can not solve all these issues, because we live in a in-best world, but at least GOD has helped millions of people in prison, in a 12 Step Program which is based on a *Higher Power*
Kids in religious schools do not worrry about guns and metal detectors, and kids with faith have far more respect for there parents and are less inclined to commit crimes or grow to be sexually active and get involved in drug abuse. This is verified as properly by our Government.
So how can you dispute the truth that GOD helps people everyday and influences there life for the much better..
NO man has been able to wipe-out GOD or faith why attempt, when you know that is 1 loosing battle.

Al Gore III faces felony drug charges
Former vice president has small to say today about son’s arrest.
City News Service
MISSION VIEJO – Former Vice President Al Gore’s son faced drug charges right now in Orange County as his father faced the media even though preparing for an international music festival to highlight global warming.
Al Gore III, 24, a Los Angeles resident, was driving a blue Toyota Prius south on the San Diego (five) Freeway about two:15 a.m. yesterday when a sheriff’s deputy stopped him at the Crown Valley Parkway exit for speeding, stated sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino.
The deputy smelled marijuana and searched the vehicle, locating less than an ounce of pot, but also the prescription drugs Valium, Xanax, Vicodin, Soma and Adderall, which is utilized to treat attention deficit disorder.
The Harvard graduate said he did not have a prescription for the drugs and admitted smoking pot shortly prior to being stopped, Amormino stated.
Nevertheless, authorities did not book him on suspicion of DUI since they decided Gore was not “impaired” by the marijuana, he stated.
He was arrested on suspicion of drug possession — and speeding — and booked into jail in Santa Ana on $ 20,000 bail. One of his sisters, reportedly Sarah, posted his bail and he was released about two p.m. yesterday.
Appearing on NBC’s “Right now” show for a previously scheduled interview, the former vice president — who is 1 of the organizers of this weekend’s “Live Earth,” a 24-hour, seven-continent concert series to promote the battle against global warming — was asked about the arrest.
“Well, we’re dealing with it as a private family members matter,” Gore stated, “and we enjoy him really significantly, and we’re glad that he’s secure, and that he’s getting therapy, and we’re going to leave it as a private matter.”
Possessing much less than an ounce of pot is a misdemeanor, but illegal possession of prescription drugs is a felony.
Gore is scheduled to seem in court Aug. 1. Prosecutors have not decided whether or not to file felony charges against him, stated Susan Schroeder of the Orange County District Attorney’s Workplace.
Orange County offers three drug diversion programs that enable men and women to undergo remedy instead of going to jail, but participants must meet specific qualifications, she stated.
Among the qualifications for the “Drug Court” plan operated by the Orange County Superior Court, a participant should have no record of violence, drug trafficking or possession of drugs for sale, said court spokeswoman Carole Levitzky.
It is aimed at folks with a second or third offense, and there “has to be a willingness” to go via drug treatment programs, such as attend a 12-step plan, she stated.
“It is difficult — they get tested often,” Levitzky stated.
Schroeder said the programs fundamentally demand participants to enter guilty pleas. Under a drug diversion program put in place by the Legislature, the defendant enters a guilty plea, but the plea is not entered as a judgment and it is never ever recorded if the person successfully completes a plan.
Under the Proposition 36 plan passed by voters, a person pleads guilty and is sentenced to treatment rather of jail, she said.
The son of the former vice president was charged with marijuana possession in Maryland in 2003 following police stopped the car he was driving for not having its headlights on. In February 2004 he entered a substance abuse program as component of a plea agreement.
Gore was ticketed for reckless driving by North Carolina police in August 2000 for allegedly driving 94 mph, and in September 2002, military police arrested him on suspicion of drunk driving near a military base in Virginia.

After all, The Bush twins and other politico’s kids get in trouble all the time, it is on the news a day or two, then it’s gone. This does not appear to fit the liberal conspiracy mold to me. But, you are not listening, are you?

Question by ΑΩ: Atheists only – Would a 12-step system be as well spiritual if you needed to break an addiction?
I know the 12 Step Applications, which are several & address every addiction going, rely on a greater power. That ‘higher power’ is open to interpretation.
If you identified yourself addicted and necessary aid, would you not go to a 12-Step System, such as NA or AA because of the ‘spirituality’ (also open to interpretation.
Please clarify.
